Update on Module 3: EU and You
As part of our Erasmus+ Exchange, Engage & Connect 2024, our Danish team convened on the island of Rømø from 14th to 17th November 2024 for Module 3. In contrast to our Austrian colleagues who met in Graz, our group followed a separate programme designed to facilitate non-formal knowledge exchange, promote youth engagement in EU policy making, and strengthen intercultural connections. On Thursday, 14th November, participants set out from different parts of Denmark. The travel schedule ensured a smooth journey - from car pick-ups in Copenhagen and Odense to the drive from Fredericia to Rømø. Upon arrival, the group checked into our summer house that provided a comfortable and functional setting for the programme. The initial meeting allowed participants to share their expectations and settle into the schedule for the coming days.
Friday, 15th November marked the beginning of the formal programme. After breakfast at the summer house, the day started with the workshop “Denmark in the EU.” In this session, EUD’s President Asmus Vilster and our facilitator Anna Westover presented an overview of Denmark’s role in EU policy making, highlighting how national contributions influence European decision-making. Following lunch - and an optional visit to Marsk Tower for a local perspective - the afternoon included a team-building session at a nearby minigolf venue, intended to complement the learning with informal interactions. The day concluded with a shorter workshop on “Career Opportunities in the EU”, facilitated by Oliver Byron and Patrick Von Wildenradt, in which facilitators outlined pathways for pursuing a career in EU institutions. The evening was set aside for informal networking over dinner and leisure time.
Saturday, 16th November was dedicated to further knowledge exchange and practical training. The morning session, “EUD, JEF and the Development of EUD”, facilitated by Oliver Byron and Patrick Von Wildenradt, examined the role of youth organizations such as Europæisk Ungdom Danmark and JEF Europe in EU advocacy, and encouraged discussions on enhancing youth impact on policymaking. Following lunch at a local venue, the afternoon workshop on “Projects in the EU”, facilitated by Patrick Von Wildenradt provided practical guidance on project planning, funding, and execution. The day ended with additional opportunities for networking through leisure activities and dinner conversations.
On Sunday, 17th November, the programme concluded with a reflective excursion. After breakfast and a brief clean-up, the group departed on a journey via car train and ferry to the German island of Sylt. The excursion, which included a guided tour and communal lunch, served as a practical demonstration of cross-border cooperation and the Schengen principles that underpin European solidarity. The group returned to Denmark later that day, marking the official end of Module 3.
The experiences and insights gained during our time on Rømø provide a solid foundation as we move forward to Module 4 in Brussels, scheduled for March 2025. We look forward to building on these discussions and continuing our work toward a more inclusive and dynamic Europe.
